Greetings from Corniglia!
The girls found wifi for a very reasonable rate at the local hostel. 90 minutes for 1.20 Euro. So they are going to do a little email, a little Facebook and a brief blog entry with some photos.
The girls' time in Cinque Terre has been pretty soggy so far. The sunshine has been elusive; somewhat of a tease. This morning there was lovely sunshine as they started out for their hike to the train station for their trip to Riomaggiori to hike the trail to Manarola. All was fine and they had pretty well completed their hike when sprinkles started to fall. They pulled out and slid into the plastic ponchos that Wanda had brought along. It is a good thing because in no time, the rain was coming down.
The shuttle bus was overflowing with tourists getting off the train so the girls opted to walk the road back to town. The walk only takes about 15 minutes, but they had put it in low gear as it was uphill all the way. They both were feelin' the burn!
Once in the apartment, they were out of the wet clothes in no time. Cathy made proscuitto panini for lunch with a wonderful smoked cheese she acquired at the Alimentary the night before. Wanda squeezed the juice from the fresh lemons brought to them yesterday by Cristiana, their host. Cathy worked her magic and made lemonade. Wanda and Cathy gobbled down their lunch and then spent some time downloading the photos from the morning and then had a serious nap attack!
The rain came once again followed by some glorious sunshine and amazingly angry looking clouds.
The seas were rough with whitecaps and as they neared the hostel, sprinkles were falling again.
Future plans are to go to Montoresso for lunch at a friends house. Anything else is purely spontaneous.
The girls have met very nice folks while traveling; a neighboring couple from California, some college kids from Texas and Kansas, some folks from Canada in addition to the helpful and friendly locals.
A few photos have been added to the 2012 Photo page, check them out!
